How to Apply for E-Waste EPR Registration on the CPCB Portal

Rego Services walks through the application journey, from preparing data to responding to queries and receiving your registration.

E-waste EPR registration is applied for online on the CPCB EPR portal. You select your applicant category, enter the required information, upload supporting PDFs and submit through an authorised person with an undertaking. CPCB verifies the application, may raise queries, and issues the registration certificate through the portal on approval. Confirm screens and fields against the live portal, as they can change.

Introduction

Under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, registration moved from state-level authorisation to a central online process run by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The process is entirely online, but errors in category, data or documents can slow it down.

This guide supports our pillar page on e-waste EPR registration in India. It is general guidance, so rely on the portal and CPCB's SOPs for current screens and fields.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Sign in through the CPCB gateway

CPCB provides a common sign-in for its EPR portals. Use it to reach the e-waste module and keep your login credentials safe, as the account is used for the application, certificates and returns later.

Step 2: Select your applicant category

Choose producer, manufacturer, refurbisher or recycler and initiate the registration. The fields that follow depend on this choice.

Step 3: Fill in the information

Enter entity details, authorised person details and category-specific information such as products, production or facility details.

Step 4: Upload documents

Upload the required documents as PDFs against each requested item, and add the signature and undertaking in the format prescribed on the portal.

Step 5: Review and submit

Check every entry against your records before submitting. Keep a copy of what you filed.

Step 6: Track status

Log in to follow the application. CPCB verifies it and communicates through the portal.

Producers: Registration Details and EPR Information

CPCB's producer SOP describes the application in two parts: basic registration information with supporting documents, and information used to determine EPR targets or obligations, such as product and sales data. Treat both with equal care, since the second part drives your recycling obligation. See e-waste EPR targets explained.

After Submission: Verification and Queries

StageWho actsWhat happens
SubmissionApplicantInformation and documents submitted through an authorised person
VerificationCPCBApplication and documents are checked
QueriesApplicantShortcomings raised on the portal are answered

For manufacturers and recyclers, further verification of facilities or processes may be part of the procedure under the relevant SOP. After registration, see EPR certificates and annual returns.

Renewal

CPCB's SOP states that renewal of the producer registration certificate is applied for on the portal 120 days before expiry. Check your certificate's validity and set a reminder well in advance. Fees and validity are covered in fees, processing time and validity.

Common Mistakes

1. Starting under the wrong category

Fields and document needs change by category, so confirm the role before you begin.

2. Rushing the EPR information section

Inconsistent product or sales data leads to queries and can affect your target.

3. Unclear or oversized uploads

Illegible PDFs create avoidable deficiency notes.

4. Ignoring portal queries

Unanswered shortcomings stall the application. Check status regularly.

5. Missing renewal windows

Plan renewal well before expiry.
